James (Jake) T. Johnson

Born in Columbia, SC, and raised in greater Charlotte, NC, Jake’s wide-ranging experiences in STEM, business, athletics, and law bring a diverse perspective to Willoughby Humphrey & D’Antoni, P.A.’s litigation, business, and government practices.

Jake graduated from the Tulane University School of Law with a certificate of specialization in Sports & Entertainment Law. While at Tulane, Jake was a member of the Federal Bar Association and the Sports Law Society, and he was selected to serve as a Tulane Harris Fellow. He was also a member of the Sports Lawyers Journal, which is published by the Sports Lawyers Association and is the most widely read legal sports journal in the country.  His comment on the use of tax-exempt municipal bonds to fund sports infrastructure was selected for publication in the journal. While in law school, Jake worked successive tax seasons for the VITA Tax Clinic, which serves low-income members of New Orleans.

Jake earned his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Saint Louis University in Missouri. He is a published contributor for his laboratory work for the Biochemistry & Pharmacology Department on orphan nuclear receptors. At SLU, Jake was a Sprinter and Jumper on the Division 1 Track & Field team, and he presently holds two school records in the Indoor and Outdoor Long Jump.
